A Monster Calls is about a boy named Conor who lives in London with his mom, but his mom is really sick.  Conor is getting bullied at school and doesn’t have any friends, and his grandmother is threatening to take him away. On a stormy night there is a giant tree that changes into a monster – and the monster tells Conor stories, but tells Conor that he must also tell a story of his own at the end.

I think the Monster in this film is really Groot’s father (from Guardian’s of the Galaxy). I think he was abducted by aliens while a family of racoons was living in his branches, and that’s how Rocket and Groot came to be.
