Trollhunters and 3Below are Netflix original series created by Guillermo Del Toro. It’s actually a trilogy, but so far they have created two different Netflix original series, all set in the same town of Arcadia.

The first series is Trollhunters and is filled with mystery and adventure. It’s about 3 friends Jim Lake, Toby Domzalski, and Claire Nunez; and their Troll buddies Blinky and Aaarrrgghh. They are the protectors of Heartstone Trollmarket, the last great metropolis of Troll civilization.

The second series is 3Below and is about two royal siblings Aja and Krel and their guard Varvatos Vex (glorious death!) after they crash down on the mud planet named after dirt – Earth. My dad has been watching the series with me but really liked 3Below because his girlfriend Tatiana Maslany voices one of the characters. He really misses Orphan Black because of his girl (insert my Mom’s eye roll here). It’s pretty awesome that Diego Luna (Book of Life) and Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation, Sing, Making It) play the other main roles.

The stories intersect towards the end of the first series, when Aja and Krel are introduced to Jim and help him to store lightning in a jar. Their backstory isn’t revealed until the second series.

I recommend watching these shows if you like Trolls and Aliens and big adventures.
